Miranda Burns is an
emerging performance artist, based in the east of London. Utilising a penetrating
arrangement of sound, movement and light, her work aims to enforce intense
sensory experiences upon both herself and her audience. Grounded in a need to
expose a discourse between the literal STRENGTH of the human body, and its
perceived durability by the voyeuristic society in which it is entrapped, Burns
invites her audience to interrogate their own perceptions of her physical mass,
encouraging a elasticity in their confidences. Intransigently rooted in her constructed
paradox of a minimalistic spectacle, her work aims to herald the INVISIBILITY
of certain diseases, providing a homage to their concealed, yet overawing
infectious strength. Riddled with metaphor and illusion, her works invite the
audience to fall with her, into a hidden universe of disability, commitment,
weight, confinement, strength and repetition, retaining a respect for the powers
which they possess. Less is often more.
